TEX4.0: Empowering the Textile Sector through Digital Transformation and Industry 4.0 Skills

October 2025 — As the TEX4.0 Project reaches its conclusion, the consortium proudly announces the completion and public launch of its full suite of learning materials and digital tools — now freely available online for learners, trainers, and professionals in the textile Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme (KA220-VET), TEX4.0 – Enabling Industry 4.0 Skills in Textile SMEs set out to equip the European textile and fashion industries with the skills, resources, and competencies needed to navigate the digital transition. The project responded to one of the most pressing challenges of our time: bridging the gap between traditional craftsmanship and the technological innovations driving Industry 4.0.

Over two years, a consortium of six partners —TU Dresden (Germany), Lottozero textile laboratories (Italy), UPB-CAMIS (Romania), IDL – Institut de la Mode (France), and CAMARABELUX – Chamber of Commerce Belgium-Luxembourg, KAINOTOMIA (Greece) — collaborated to design and test a comprehensive set of training tools tailored for the textile sector’s evolving needs.

Key Achievements and Outputs

  • TEX4.0 Curriculum and Report
A foundational study and curriculum mapping the digital skills required for textile professionals, trainers, and learners. The report identifies emerging technological trends and defines core competencies to prepare the workforce for Industry 4.0.
  • TEX4.0 Training Suite
An innovative e-learning environment divided into three interactive sections:

    • E-Learning Platform: 12 modules covering topics such as robotics, AI, additive manufacturing, smart textiles, digital product passports, IoT, and supply chain management (camis.pub.ro/tex40/) .
    • Trainer’s Corner: A dedicated resource hub providing trainers and educators with structured lesson materials, quizzes, PowerPoints, and teaching notes.
    • Textile4All Space: 18 case studies — 6 enhanced with augmented reality features — showcasing real-world applications of Industry 4.0 technologies across European textile companies.
  • Piloting Workshops and MyTEXperience Event
Pilot sessions were held in all partner countries to test the training suite with learners, educators, and SMEs. These culminated in MyTEXperience (Larissa, Greece, September 2025) — a transnational learning exchange bringing together participants from across Europe for three days of training, debate, and study visits with technology and textile experts.
  • Open Educational Access
All project results are freely accessible through the online platform, allowing anyone — from vocational learners and teachers to small business owners — to explore the materials, gain certificates of completion, and apply new skills directly in their professional practice.

Impact and Future Outlook

TEX4.0 has successfully developed a digital training ecosystem that connects sustainability, innovation, and employability within the textile industry. By aligning education with technological advancement, the project helps ensure that small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as future professionals, can thrive in a rapidly evolving market shaped by EU sustainability goals and digital transition policies.

The consortium’s work also contributes to broader European objectives under the EU Green Deal and the Twin Transition, empowering the textile workforce to embrace digital tools as a catalyst for circularity and competitiveness.
